Best Thing I watched last Week: Bates Motel
Yo, yo, YOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
That was all I could say at the end of last week's season finale of Bates Motel, on A&E. It was one of the best finale's of season, no doubt about it.
Last week, so many questions were answered, and so many mysterious story lines were concluded with gratifying conclusions. But the biggest revelation clearly was what happened in the final moments of the episode.
For the past few years, Norman has been "blacking out" and killing people in acts of anger. And I feel kind of stupid, cause I never really considered the fact that it was Norma working through him.
For example, when Norman's father beat Norma, Norman struck Sam in the head with a blender, but doesn't remember what happened later. Norma made it look like a freak accident where a shelf fell on her husband and killed him. then she tells people that Norman killed him. But really it was Norman taking on her persona.
Another example is when Dylan disrespected Norma. Norman tried to attack him, but Dylan punched him. Norman later didn't remember it and Dylan ended up telling him what happened.
Another example, was when Norman is in bed, he saw a hallucination of Norma telling him to go search for Summers' belt at Deputy Shelby's house. While Norman really believes Norma told him to do so, Norma tells Norman that sometimes he imagines stuff that doesn't actually happen.
Another time, Norman experienced a blackout between the time Miss Watson drove him to her home and he sees her undress herself inside her room and before the time he is running home from the rain. And of course she ended up dead.
All these evidence suggests that Norman is psychotic as he experiences many hallucinations and is unable to recall specific events. He does not remember his violent encounters almost immediately after they occur.
But last week, we actually saw Norma's body and image take over Norman's. It wasn't him. It was his mother acting through him, carrying out her jealous rage. Its like everything she really wants to do, every dangerous, crazy, inhumane act, she works through him to perform.
It clicked for me last week. She wanted her husband dead, she used Norman to do it. She thought Ms. Watson was seducing her son and taking his attention away from her, she worked through Norman to kill her, and last week Bradley was trying to take Norman away, so she used Norman to end her for good.
So while people have been saying Norman is the crazy one, he is simply the surrogate to do Norma's bidding. He's being manipulated and the true insane one is Norma!!!!
What a great damn show.
