Today I reveal my first list of weekly NFL power rankings for the 2015 season. Unlike other sites, I don't do power rankings until after week 1 has been played, as I don't feel you should judge a team off of what happened in the preseason nor off of what you saw happen last year.
So today, I will take into account everything I know about these teams, and give heavy consideration to what was displayed on the field in week one. This gives an accurate assessment of where teams are at in my opinion.
1. New England Patriots
Both sides of the ball looked good, but Brady was excellent, carving up the Steelers. Tough matchup vs Rex's Bills.
2. Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers was able to throw to anyobody on the field and they looked great. defense made Cutler look like bad Cutler.
3. Denver Broncos
Tough win over a good Ravens team. Though the offense didn't score, that defense was sensational.
4. Buffalo Bills
On both sides of the Ball the Bills dominated the preseason favorite Colts. Made Andrew Luck look terrible and Tyrod was great in first start. Tough game with New England this week.
5. Kansas City Chiefs
They went into Houston and hit them in the mouth. The Chiefs were able to dominate the Texans and put up points.
6. St. Louis Rams
The Rams defeated the top dog in the NFC, Seahawks and held off a comeback attempt stopping Marshawn Lynch on 4th down. Give Nick Foles credit.
7. Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys were able to pull off a hell of a 4th quarter comeback, led by Tony Romo. The lost of Dez Bryant will hurt them, but it was an impressive win without him.
8. Arizona Cardinals
The Cards looked great on both sides of the ball and were able to confuse the Saints and neutralize their weapons.
9. Seattle Seahawks
Kam Chancellor's negotiating position looks stronger after his replacement was burned for pivotal TD. The Seahawks made a good push to force overtime and will still be a great team.
10. Atlanta Falcons
The defense was flying early but got beat bad in the second half. But a big win over the high powered offense of Philly is impressive. And Julio Jones played like a BEAST.
11. Cincinnati Bengals
Its easy to just want to judge them off of their playoff lack of success, but these are regular season rankings and they usually deliver. But it was the Raiders.
12. San Diego Chargers
That was an impressive come-from-behind victory against the Lions. The connection between Rivers to Allen was sensational.
13. Miami Dolphins
They beat the Reskins and it wasn't exactly a blow out either. They have to be more consistent, but Jarvis Laundry is a stud.
14. Baltimore Ravens
Tough loss in Denver, where they had a chance to win in the end. But the lost of Suggs should not hold them back too much
15. San Francisco 49ers
So much for all that talk that the 49ers would be awful. Colin Kaepernick and Carlos Hyde are a dangerous combo.
16. Philadelphia Eagles
It took them a half to get going against the Falcons, but they were unstoppable in the second half. Them DBs? Trash.
17. Indiannapolis Colts
Say what you want, but these guys are way too over hyped for my liking and they proved to be exactly what I thought, frauds.
18. Carolina Panthers
Defense made big plays in pass coverage and against the run. Newton has lackluster options in the passing game.
19. Tennessee Titans
Marcus Mariota was sensational in his first game. But the next step is sustaining it. He has that look, but time will tell.
20. Pittsburgh Steelers
They have major issues on defense, which have to be fixed even with that great offense. The secondary is a mess.
21. New York Jets
The Jets will have to prove that they can hold up in pass protection as they match up against stronger teams
22. Detroit Lions
They couldn't get the ball to Megatron consistently, and the defense got shredded in the 2nd half.
23. New York Giants
The clock management at the end of the Dallas game could haunt this team the rest of the way. That's a game they had no business losing.
24. New Orleans Saints
The offense looked noticeably worse without Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills, but the hope is that C.J. Spiller’s will help.
25. Houston Texans
Another team that was over hyped by the media and fans. Kansas City blitzed and ran roughshod over them.
26. Chicago Bears
The Bears actually fought hard and Forte was a damn beast, but Cutler was Cutler. The defense showed some heart though.
27. Washington Redskins
They competed on defense against Miami, which is a good sign. But they scored just 10 points with Kirk Cousins.
28. Minnesota Vikings
I expected more. But they decided not to run Peterson for some dumb reason. I still think they will get better though.
29. Tampa Bay Bucs
What a terrible debut for the number 1 overall pick. Winston was outplayed by Mariotta. The Tampa Defense was trashed.
30. Oakland Raiders
I thought Derrick Carr was ready to take that next step with Amari Cooper as a key weapon. Not yet, not yet.
31. Jacksonville Jaguars
That was not a good start to what's supposed to be an improved team. Blake Bortles looked lost.
32. Cleveland Browns
That run defense was pathetic and the lost of Josh McCown got us Johnny Footbball. He was good, then really really bad.
