O's Magic Ride Starts Now
If the Baltimore Orioles want to make it back to the post season this year, the run had to begin last night.
After being no-hit in Seattle on Wednesday, the O's finished with a 4-5 record, losing three of their last four games on the trip. With the Toronto Blue Jays red hot and streaking with 11 straight wins, last night's game was so important.
The Orioles began their 10 game home stand, hosting the Oakland A's at Camden Yards last night, before a large and excited crowd. The A's are struggling, so this series is exactly what the Orioles need, to get a rhythm back in them and make a fall push.
Well, it wasn't easy. After falling behind 4-0, Adam Jones hit a rocket 3 run home run, that got the O's back in the game. Later, after the game was tied at 4 all, Chris Davis smashed a 2-run homer to Eutaw street, which gave the O's a 2 run lead. The place went crazy.
But Zach Britton, who had converted 24 straight save opportunities prior to last night, blew a 2 run lead, and we were forced into extra innings.
And then the game just would end. Smh.
Last night was Hall of Fame night at the Yard, so fans arrived early to see the inductions of Melvin Mora, John Lowenstein, Gary Roenicke, and scout Fred Uhlman Sr.
Also it was fireworks night after the game. But the game just kept going and going. The O's had their chances to end it, but kept coming up short.
Until finally, Manny Machado hit a walk off two-run homer in the 13th inning, and the Orioles pulled out a win 8-6. The place went wild, and the fans went home happy.
The Orioles now sit 1 and 1/2 games out of the wild card playoff spot. They have the tale t to make the run, but they will need to take advantage of the teams they should be beating. They have 9 straight games at hime and they need to put together a run.
This stretch here will go along way in determining our fate the season. The team will need JJ Hardy to wake up, they need more production out of Geraldo Parra, and the leaders in Jones, Machado, and Davis need to keep hitting. And of course, our rotation has to shut down teams we should be beating.
This is the time of year when championship caliber teams put together and get it done. No time like the present to pull out some Oriole Magic.
I'm ready for the ride.
