Real Time Series Review: Daredevil - Episode 3
Today I review episode 3 of Daredevil. Remember, these reviews were written in real time and document my exact thoughts as I was watching it two months ago. No back story, no Easter eggs. What I saw is what I wrote. Enjoy
Daredevil Episode 3
Show opens with a guy in a bowling alley wanting to bowl right before closing. The attendant tells him he can't and he ask why the guy over there is still bowling. She tells him he has special permission. So he goes over and asks to join but the guy blows him off. Obviously something us up, as the guy who is bowling gets very aggressive and his henchmen attack the guy who was asking to bowl. Seeing that he is outnumbered, he takes out a gun and pulls the trigger, but the gun jams. Shit. But no worries, he fucks all of them up with his bare hands. Then He viciously kills the boss who was bowling with a bowling ball. I have no clue what the hell is going on but that kill was crazy as shit!!!
We get a flashback to 36 hours prior and discover that the guy was sent there to kill, when we see that the gun was part of a transaction with the black guy who Matt fucked up in the first episode. He assured him the gun wouldn't jam. But when he tried to use it at the bowling alley, it jammed, so there you go.
The guy hid the gun in the bowling alley under a ping pong machine, then surrendered himself to the police. He then requested a lawyer. Credits roll.
*I apologize for labeling everybody as the guy this or the guy that, but they don't exactly tell you these dudes names right away on this show and all I can write is what I see.*
After credits, Matt is sitting outside a church and the priest he confessed to during the 1st episode approaches him and wants to discuss his issues further over coffee. Matt declines.
Two men meet by the water and discuss the death of Rigoletto, the dude who got killed in the bowling alley. Finally, some names!!! The black guy, Benny, says the Russians are nervous cause somebody been hitting them hard. The Italian man withholds the info he knows. The black guy, Benny, is a reporter. He wants info on whats been happening but the Italian won't spill anything. They have worked together in the past.
Foggy, Karen and Matt are in the office, and the man in the suit from Union Allied comes and ask to retain the law firm. Obviously he has ulterior motives. He offers money for them to be on the books. Foggy is interested due to the money but Matt doesn't trust him. Matt questions how the man in the suit knows anything about them or Karen.
He gives them a case. Then gets in a vehicle with the big boss. Matt doesn't trust him at all. Matt realizes he's bleeding again as well. Still feeling the effects of the beating he took last episode.
At the precinct, the murderer from the bowling alley, Mr. Healy, explains his story to Foggy. Foggy doesn't trust him now. Matt comes in and decides to take the case. Obviously he wants to get closer to the man in the suit to find out the motive behind it.
The reporter Benny is trying to dig up the scoop on the Union Allied scandal connection with the Russians. His editor doesn't want him chasing the story. He puts him in a fluff piece. The editor explains that the paper is barely hanging on.
Matt wants to make sure Mr. Healy understands Attorney client privilege, which he does. Matt wants info on the man who hired them. Healy can't and won't and he's being smug. Matt asked if they were hired to loose. Healy wants to go directly to trial.
Obviously the fix is in.
Man in the suit goes to the bowling alley to get the gun that Healy stashed under the ping pong machine.
A lawyer for Global tries to get Karen to sign an agreement not to ever disclose info on Union Allied or their companies. They threaten to sue her for breaking the confidentiality agreement if she doesn't comply. They offer her hush money.
Benny convinces a hospital manager to give his wife Shirley an extension to stay their longer, though he cant afford it.
In court, Foggy tries to plead Mr/ Healy case of self defense but you can tell he doesn't even believe it. Matt can sense that one of the jurors has been tainted, as her heart is beating very rapidly. Next we see her being confronted and threatened by a man who works for the man in the suit from Union Allied. Matt somehow tracks the man down and whips his ass to get answers.
Apparently Union Allied is blackmailing the juror by threatening to release a tape of her showing her ass back in the day. Matt wants answers from the henchman but he doesn't know the name of the man he works for. He walks by a window, if the light is on, he has a job.
The juror is replaced. Matt stands there and listens for heartbeats during his closing arguments. All are normal. Matt gives excellent and convincing closing statements which look to convince the jury the murder was self defense.
We find that the man in the suit picked Matt and Foggy in part because they are clean and above approach. The higher ups are nervous about the juror being removed.
Karen goes to see Daniel's widow and tells her about the bribe. The widow tells Karen to protect herself and let it go. She signed the agreement already and Karen should to. But Karen can't. She decides to go to Benny and wants to give him more to the story he wrote about Union Allied.
The jury is hung. Another juror got blackmailed. Matt is pissed. The fix was in all along. They were just pawns. Healy got off. Matt attacks him later that night. Hell of a fight in an alley.
Kind of unrealistic how he see shit coming in these fighting scenes.
Matt whips his ass and wants the name of the man he works for. And finally, Healy gives up the name of the big boss, Wilson Fisk. That's right, KING PIN!!!!
Healy fears for the life of himself and his family so bad because he gave up King Pins name, that he drives his head into a spike, killing himself out of fear. Crazy ass shit scene with the visual of the spike going through his eye being insane.
We see Fisk buying art at a gallery. Finally, we see Kingpin's face. Shit bout to get real.
As we fade to black.
I love this damn show. Building perfectly.
