Terp Review: Georgetown
After trailing damn near the whole game, the Maryland Terps escaped with a 75-71 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas in College Park.
It was great game, and I tip my hat to Georgetwon for competing hard and really pushing the no.3 team in the country to the limit. But Melo Trimble and Rasheed Sulaimon were huge down the stretch. This was a great sign, to see your stars step up in big moments.
After starting icecold, especially from down town, Jake Layman scored 15 in the 2nd half and was huge as well. That was great sign. Even when shots were not falling, he showed he could contribute in other ways and could drive teh ball to the basket.
Coach Mark Turgeon had to be happy with resolve his team showed down teh stretch and it was a big win on a National stage. ESPN was in the house and that always adds a little extra pressure.
Also, it was the first time since 1993 that the teams faced each other in the D.C. area, and the areana was jumping and the game lived up to the hype. They will meet against next year on Georgetown's home floor.
Maryland has some things to work on, as they could have easily lost this game. But it was a good gritty win. Trimble led the way with 24 points and got to the line as his normal routine.
I want to see more out of the 6"11 freshman, Diamond Stone.
