This is the UFC's second visit to Mexico City. Cain Velasquez is looking to extend his 4-fight win streak. He is coming off a fifth-round TKO win over Junior Dos Santos at UFC 166 in October 2013. He is 4-1 in his last five fights.
Fabricio Werdum is looking to extend his 5-fight win streak. He is coming off a second-round TKO win over Mark Hunt at UFC 188 in November. He is 5-0 in his last five fights.
Gilbert Melendez is looking to rebound from a title fight loss in his last fight. He is coming off a second-round submission loss to Anthony Pettis at UFC 181 in December. He is 3-2 in his last five fights. Eddie Alvarez is looking to rebound from a loss in his UFC debut. He is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Donald Cerrone at UFC 178 in September. He is 3-2 in his last five fights.
Velasquez (-485) vs. Werdum (+385)
Cain hasn't fought in two years, so it will be interesting to see how he comes back and performs. Those odds are way out of whack for a guy who hasn't fought in so long and is coming in with, as I understand it, an injury that would likely see him pull out of the fight if he hadn't been on the shelf for so long. Werdum's not injury prone going into the fight, he's coming off a flying knee knockout of Mark Hunt, and he's the more diverse and overall skilled of the two. He's the one who should be the favorite, even if only slightly.
Should be a great slug fest in the main event and and Melendez vs Alvarez should be fun as well.
